Prompt Leaks 💧

Someone tried to reverse-engineer how Perplexity.ai (a search engine build on top of ChatGPT) generates its answers to a given question. 

In the screenshot above you can see the prompt behind every answer on Perplexity🤯.

Prompt echoing/leakage

We call this prompt echoing or leakage, and it has been reported since September 2022.

OpenAI still hasn't resolved this issue. Currently, it is still possible to manipulate inputs and uncover the underlying prompts of the apps you use.

Some experts argue that there may not be a foolproof solution to this problem.

ChatGPT is also vulnerable to this issue:

Is this a big deal? 

Well, Prompts are not moats. Everyone with enough training and "Prompt Cheat Sheets" access can tackle this (congrats you qualify as well!).

So, if OpenAI doesn't seem to care, I think we shouldn't as well.
