Extending photos with AI

A couple of weeks ago, Photoshop released the “Generative Fill” feature, and everyone loved it!

You can edit, remove or add to your photos — by just typing words.

You basically select a piece of your photo to generate new objects; or you can expand the frame, to generate new parts of your photo.

The “extending” or “outpainting” option became very popular, and folks have been extending popular memes and music covers.

But what if you don’t use Photoshop and need some free options?

We got you. 🤗

There are two options that you can use today:

• Dalle Outpainting from OpenAI, and

• UnCrop by Stable Diffusion.

Dalle Outpainting

With Dalle Outpainting you can extend the frame of your photo and “type” what you want to add to it.

Currently limited to “boxed” frames and you don’t have much control over the selected area, but the results can be really good.

UnCrop by Stable Diffusion

UnCrop was announced last week and it’s similar to Dalle.

The key difference is that instead of typing out what you want in the enlarged picture, you simply adjust the image's ratio.

NEW TECH

MusicGen by Meta

Meta launched their newest AI model for music generation, called MusicGen.

Simply type what type of melody you want to create and you will have it in a couple of seconds.

You can try it for free on this Hugging Face demo.

WHAT ELSE IS GOING ON

🦙 Instacart has its own Shopping assistant. Their search bar is integrating a language model to assist with customers’ grocery shopping questions.

👀 Google launches a framework to secure Gen-AI. AIF is a security framework inspired by software development best practices, designed to address the specific security risks of AI systems and ensure they are secure by default.

🏋🏻‍♀️  Runway secretly signed a huge deal with Google. They gave Runway millions of dollars in cloud credits, just so they can’t move to Amazon/Microsoft.
