Claude 2: Cheaper than GPT4

And better at reasoning & coding

Hi folks!👋🏻 This is The Prompt! We're your go-to source for all things AI.

Let's see what’s new

Claude 2: Better & Cheaper language model

Anthropic, a company founded by former OpenAI staff, released the second version of their renowned Claude language model.

Claude 2 can search across documents, summarize, write and code and answer questions about particular topics.

It's cheaper than GPT-4 and far stronger in reasoning & coding than its older self - Finally, something that can rival OpenAI’s models!

Claude is happy

Here’s everything you need to know👇🏻

100K & 200K context window

They say that the model can analyze 100k tokens, and even 200K tokens in one prompt, but they won’t release the 200K option yet.

Right now, it can analyze roughly 75,000 words - that’s the equivalent of “The Great Gatsby” book.

In comparison, GPT3.5-32K by OpenAI can only fit 32K tokens.

Trained on recent data

Claude 2 knowledge cutoff is early 2023, so you’ll get more updated answers.

In comparison, OpenAI’s cutoff date is 2021, but they allow you to access the internet, which Claude cannot do.

Will hallucinate 2x less than the old model

Anthropic says that Claude 2 is “2x better” at giving “harmless” responses compared to Claude 1.3 on an internal evaluation.

But it’s not clear what that metric means.

Better at text-processing tasks

It will produce correctly-formatted outputs in JSON, XML, YAML, and markdown formats.

Cheaper than GPT4/ GPT3.5 with bigger context window

Claude2 will cost you $0.011 for input prompts & $0.032 for the output prompts (Remember the input prompt here is 100K tokens).

Where, GPT4-32k will cost you $0.06 & $0.12, and GPT3.5-32k will cost yo $0.003 & $0.004, respectively (the input prompt here is 32K).

Real competition, finally

I guess the real challenge for OpenAI has started, and now we have another very capable model that is much cheaper, and better at reasoning due to the larger context window.

WHAT ELSE IS GOING ON

🦙 Shutterstock’s new deal with OpenAI. They will continue to equip OpenAI with training data for its AI models. Shutterstock, in turn, will gain “priority access” to OpenAI’s latest tech and new editing capabilities that’ll let Shutterstock customers transform images in Shutterstock’s stock content library.

👀 KPMG to invest up to $2 billion into AI. KPMG plans to invest $2 billion in AI and cloud services through an expanded partnership with Microsoft. The company expects the partnership to generate over $12 billion in revenue over five years, representing about 7% of KPMG's global revenue.

🏋🏻‍♀️  China shipped their first language model: Baichuan-13B. Sogou founder Wang Xiaochuan aims to create China's own OpenAI. His startup Baichuan Intelligence has launched the Baichuan-13B language model, trained on 1.4 trillion tokens. Wang plans to release a model similar to OpenAI's GPT-3.5 by year-end.
