ChatGPT now has plugins that add external information to the basic AI model.

Okay, let’s just start with this: This is BIG!

How big are we talking?

Like macOS for Apple or Windows for Microsoft, ChatGPT with plugins can be your text-based operating system (OS) for all your text interactions.

And there are so many apps that fit this new OS: coding, browsing, calculations, shopping, ordering food…etc.

Imagine when they add the image modality to it.

Game changer.

Which plugins are available now?

They collaborated with apps like Zapier, Wolfram, Klarna, KAYAK, and others.

But they also launched three official plugins:

  1. Browser: Yes, ChatGPT can search the web now (example)

  2. Code interpreter: Live Python interpreter built-in (example)

  3. Retrieval: Open-sourced semantic search for personal docs,(example)

Still available to a limited number of users, but you can get on the whitelist here.

How can you build a plugin?

ChatGPT plugins should be ridiculously simple to implement!

You don't need to write any code to make this work. All you need to do is use human language descriptions to describe the API. The AI model will automatically figure out how to authenticate with your API, make the necessary calls, process the data, and format it for display.

And you can probably build a plugin using GPT-4. 😅

WHAT ELSE IS GOING ON

🧑🏻‍💻 GitHub launched CoPilot X! They’re adding a ChatGPT-like interface to the editor. You can also pull requests with text now.

🎨 Canva launched new AI tools to their suite. You can create social media graphics, presentations, and advertising materials with text.

👀 Mozilla is building an open-sourced AI ecosystem. They are committing $30M to build Mozilla AI, and how to build it in a trustworthy way.
